2024 Election Prayer Guide.
31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
- Jesus in John 8:31-32 (NLT)
- Jesus in John 8:31-32 (NLT)
In prayer, we invite the Lord into the process of electing those leaders who will ultimately allow us to “lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” (1 Timothy 2:2, ESV)
It is imperative that we pray faithfully for today’s election, yet our hope and trust is not in the results of elections, but in the power and sovereignty of God. The spiritual and moral issues facing this nation will not be resolved in the White House, Congress, or the Supreme Court.
What the United States desperately needs is another Great Awakening!
The Church must experience a revival that awakens her to the life-changing power of Jesus Christ in her midst. Such a spiritual awakening within the people of God has the power to bring about true cultural transformation in this nation.
There are many reasons to pray for the election:
- The Bible commands us to pray for those who are in leadership (1 Timothy 2:1-4). This includes those who are vying to become leaders.
- Godly leaders can help slow the erosion of religious liberties in our land. This can provide an increased window of opportunity for the church to pray and evangelize.
- According to Scripture, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people” (Proverbs 14:34, NASB). The selection of leaders who understand and lead according to God’s righteous standards can bring great blessings to a nation.
- Scripture also says “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisors make victory sure” (Proverbs 11:14, NIV). The determination of who leads our nation will also determine who advises that leader and how we are guided.
- Petition/Supplication means to ask. God urges us to ask, and He is pleased when we do.
- Prayer is talking to God, anywhere, anytime, in any way.
- Intercession is praying for someone else. The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ constantly intercedes for us (Romans 8:34), so it pleases God when we intercede for someone else–including the heads of state and others in authority–because we are doing what Christ does.
- Thanksgiving always pleases God, and the Bible specifically tells us to include thanksgiving when we talk to God about those in authority.
We are to pray respectfully for leaders. “Honor all people… Fear God. Honor the king” (1 Peter 2:17). We are to pray with the clear understanding that government authority is established by God. “Let every soul be subjected to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and authorities that exist are appointed by God” (Romans 13:1). We also pray knowing that God’s Word says, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water; he turns it wherever He wishes” (Proverbs 21:1).

The Church
“His [God’s] intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known…” (Ephesians 3:10)
Pray:
Pray:
- Our eyes will be opened to see the hope to which we are called (Eph. 1:18).
- We will experience in a fresh, new way the presence of Christ in revival.
- Believers will be given the faith to believe that their votes will make a difference.
- A spirit of repentance and humility will be poured out upon the people of God (2 Cor. 5:10).
- A spirit of humility and an outreach in the church toward those whom the Bible calls the least among us (Psalm 9:18).
- That PPCC and other churches in our area will preach the gospel of Christ powerfully.
- Thank the Lord for the freedom we have in Him and for the wisdom to understand that freedom (Gal. 5:13).
- For a spirit of consecration and holiness to come upon the Church in America (Joshua 3:5).
- For a spirit of compassion to come over the church in the U.S. so that we will begin seriously to live out the lifestyle of Jesus in our community (Philemon 1:6).
- Ask the Lord to help strengthen the trumpet call to intensive prayer so that it’s heard throughout the church in the U.S. (1 Tim. 2:8).
- For a spirit of courage to rise within the Church. Commit to enduring whatever it takes to see the fulfillment of God’s purposes in our nation (1 Thess. 1:6).
- The Church in America will live in such a way that the peace of Christ comes into the councils of our nation (Romans 12:2).
- A movement of the Spirit that creates a dramatic cultural shift in the U.S., bringing about a nation that has learned to put its hope in the Word of God (Matt. 4:16).
- Ask the Lord to awaken the Church to the temporary nature of the nations and to the eternal nature of the reign of God (Matt. 6:33).
- Courage born of wisdom will be given to all Christians in places of leadership in government, the courts, and law schools across the nation so they will stand for a godly basis for law (Joshua 1:9).
The Nation and the Issues it Faces
Pray:
- The judges of this nation, that they would seek the wisdom that comes from above (Deut. 4:8).
- Ask the Lord to thwart the efforts of those who would remove religious freedom from our nation (Gal. 5:1)
- For truth to be valued again in American society (John 8:32).
- Our nation will increasingly see that God is our only refuge in the midst of the troubles of this world (Jer. 33:6).
- For our judicial system and lawmakers, that justice for all, tempered by mercy and compassion, would guide our nation (Is. 1:17)
- Repent on behalf of our nation, because we have tuned from making Scripture the basis of law, leaving behind wisdom, and looking to ourselves for truth (Zech. 7:9).
- Ask the Lord to pour out a spirit of repentance on our nation so that we might become a nation committed to following His ways (Jer. 29:13).
- The U.S. would repent of its corporate rejection of the Word of God.
- A holy fear of God will sweep across our nation, leading us back to a place of wisdom (Is. 50:10).

- Self-interest will be laid aside for the common good.
- Discernment between truth and falsehood will be clear.

- They will surround themselves with godly advisors (Prov. 1:7).
- They will focus on the issues we face as a nation and not on personal attacks on other candidates (1 Tim. 1:6).
- For the salvation of those who are in leadership. Ask the Lord to remove all envy and selfish ambition (James 3:16).
The Media
Pray:
- Truth in reporting and election coverage will become a high value.
- Media bias will be tempered by fairness (Eph. 5:11).
- Christianity will receive fair coverage in all reports (1 Sam. 2:24).
- Hope will become part of the message of the media.
The Impact on the Nations
Pray:
- Voters will consider the foreign policies of candidates and how they fit with biblical principles.
- The activities of other nations will not have an undue influence on our elections.
- The result of the U.S. elections will serve to spread the gospel around the globe.
- The U.S. will stand firm in its commitment to Israel’s right to exist as a nation.
Spiritual Warfare Surrounding the Elections
Pray:
- Great awareness and discernment for the Lord’s praying people as they pray over the election (Numbers 10:9).
- Physical protection for all candidates and their families throughout this campaign season (Isaiah 54:1).
- A strong hedge of protection around the nation itself during this time of decision (Deuteronomy 31:6)
- The unleashing of the sword of the Spirit throughout the nation, judging the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12)

- For opportunities for Christians to share their faith and their values.
