at our convenience...

Acts 24:24-26
    Convenience...that period of time or set of circumstances that best suits us when the mood strikes.  We like things to be convenient, at hand and ready for us when needed or desired. Convenience is really about us and our comfort, our time frame.
     Even things that we admit are important, we postpone whenever possible until convenient for us. We act as if time does indeed wait our bidding and can be summoned upon at our will or...convenience.
     Procrastination is related to Convenience, and they go well together; but not always to our benefit. The man in our text, Felix, heard the Apostle Paul as he spoke of 'the faith in Christ and as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance and judgment to come.'  Felix's response was to 'tremble', i.e., he became alarmed and fearful.  We would say he was convicted. Instead of repenting, he procrastinated for a more convenient time.
      Like many, Felix sought to put off a necessary decision until a later date, one that was more fitting to his lifestyle or present desires.  Granted, some decisions can be postponed without ill effect, but one's eternal destiny is not one of those decisions.
     Because time is of the essence and it waits for no one, procrastination wastes the opportunity under the guise of convenience. Eternal decisions must not be postponed until a more convenient season, because we may run out of time. "Behold, now is the day of salvation." 2Cor 6:2. There is no time like now.
     Ralph Carmichael wrote "The Savior Is Waiting"...and He still waits. Don't put off for a more convenient season that which must be done now.
