being in the way

Genesis 24:7 & Isaiah 30:21
Many are the passages that speak of the Lord's guidance and direction, these two are brought to mind today.

Often we are concerned, perhaps overly so, with 'knowing the will of God' and while I do not minimize this desire, I do think that we sometimes seek the Lord's will when we are already in it.

In Genesis 24, Eliazar had been sent by his master, Abraham, to a specific place with a specific task - to obtain a bride for Isaac. Upon his arrival, he prayed for further guidance. We must note that we have no record of his seeking the bride until he came to the place, then, that part of his mission being accomplished, he sought further direction (vs 14).

Even after his prayer was answered (vs 15-20), he 'held his peace', to make sure (vs 21), even until his camels drank (vs 22). Specifically, he had prayed and specifically, God had answered.

Then, notice vs 25..."moreover"...in addition to what he had asked, there was 'more'. This elicited worship (vs 26). Oh, how we worship when God works so clearly! How easy worship comes at such times. Though not always so clearly does the Lord lead, yet, perhaps we see a reason as to why the Lord answered so specifically. Note the phrase in verse 27, "I being in the way, the Lord led me...". Eleazar began his journey in the will of his master, knowing his purpose was to be obedient to the command to go to the place where he was sent and to get a bride for Isaac. Nothing else deterred him along the way.

Staying in the will of his master was a day by day experience. Though we do not know all that Eleazar encountered during his journey, we do know that, as he continued in that way, the Lord led him to the desired place and person...then assured him with 'moreover'.

Let us seek to simply walk daily in the way as prescribed by the Father, so that as we do so daily, we may be led to complete the task given us. May we keep to that task until completed and then hear "moreover".

The blind songwriter, Fanny Crosby, wrote "All the Way My Savior Leads Me". That would be a good hymn to sing throughout the day as a reminder of His guiding hand.
