HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW...

Matthew 10:29-31
Going out to check the mail this morning, I happened upon a dead sparrow lying on the ground. My thoughts turned to the above Scripture, and then to a song made popular by Ethel Waters, which reflects God’s care for us which is expressed in so many ways.
It is comforting to know that He sees the events of our lives, superintends them and cares for us.  Psalm 139 is a wonderful reminder of His concern for us from the womb to the tomb. It expresses God’s Omniscience (all knowing), His Omnipresence (everywhere present) and His Omnipotence (all powerful) in beautiful and descriptive terms.
Remembering His great love and care for us, how can we doubt, be discouraged or deny His good will towards us? If He takes such care to note the falling to the ground of such a small creature as a sparrow, surely His care for His children exceeds our comprehension. Though we, through choices of our own, may often be out of His will, we are never out of His care.

In 1904, Mrs.  Civilla D. Martin of Johnson City, New York, visited Mrs. Doolittle, a friend who had been bedridden for many years. In the course of conversation, Mrs. Martin asked her friend how she came to have such a cheerful attitude towards life. She replied, “How can I be discouraged when my Heavenly Father watches over each little sparrow, and I know He loves and cares for me?”
In a few moments, Mrs. Martin had composed a poem, later set to music, which was sung by Ethel Waters at numerous Billy Graham Crusades, touching the hearts of multitudes. Her biography goes by the same name as the song, His Eye Is On The Sparrow…surely you have heard it.  Now, pardon me, as I have a burial to tend to…a little sparrow has fallen and the Father bids me show care for it.

I smiled. Thanks for the reminder.
