Jeremiah 40:1-5
The prophet was in prison because of his preaching; but God had spoken to him words of encouragement (39:15-18).
When the enemy overthrew the city of Jerusalem, Nebuzaradan gave orders concerning Jeremiah, that he be set free, and the Bible records "And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand...behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go." KJV
How liberating it is to know that we have been set free from the prison house of despair brought on us by sin's penalty and given liberty. In Christ, we are free from sin's penalty at salvation, from sin's power as we live in sanctification,  and one day, from sin's very presence when we enter Heaven.
Being in Christ does not give us liberty to continue in sin, but rather sets us free from sin's demands and ultimate destruction. We are set free to walk, not in the old ways that led to our bondage, but now free to walk in newness of life in Christ.
Rom 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.KJV
Rom 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.KJV
Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.KJV
If you are struggling under the load of sin, know that there is deliverance in Christ.
William A. Ogden wrote "He Is Able to Deliver Thee", and certainly He is! Take a moment to look it up and sing it as a reminder of what Christ has done for you.
