the danger of tolerated sins

Judges 1 & 2
   As you read these chapters...and you must if you are to understand the point of this devotional...note the times that the various individuals fell short of destroying the enemy, as God had commanded. Rather, they either just did not complete the job, or they felt that a subjugated enemy was acceptable. In other words, as long as the enemy was made to serve them, God's people felt that they could tolerate the enemy in their lives. The results were disastrous for the next generation (2:7-15).
     The spiritual application is equally heartbreaking. When we fail to deal with sin in our lives, the things that God tells us to be rid of because of their destructive nature, and content ourselves with the deceptive notion that we 'have it under control', we not only set ourselves up for failure, but provide inroads for sin to have a more devastating effect in the lives of our children.
     What we allow in moderation, our children will one day take to excess. How we are dealing with habitual and residential sin is not hidden from our children. That which we think they don't understand, or the things we think they do not see will become the very sins that may well dominate their lives to the point of destruction.
      Our walk talks and our talk talks, but our walk talks louder than our talk talks.
