The 10th Commandment: You Must Not Covet Your Neighbor's Things - Exodus 20:17-21

God has proven over and over again throughout scripture and our lives that He is to be trusted as a faithful provider. However, people struggle with greed and jealousy, and are constantly craving for more in life or are dissatisfied with what they have been given. Believers are called to be content with what God has provided. If believers can learn to be content, God has promised to give them a good life.

The 9th Commandment: You Must Not Testify Falsely Against Your Neighbor - Exodus 20:16

The 9th commandment reveals the high value God places on speaking the truth. However, people today struggle to even come close to valuing truth in how they speak, but also how they live. That is why God says, “Don’t just stop lying, but seek to live in and speak truth in all circumstances.” People should seek to replace the bad behaviors in their lives with good behaviors to show the world that they belong to God, because when people speak the truth, it will produce trust and unity within the body of Christ.

The 8th Commandment: You Must Not Steal - Exodus 20:15

God commanded His people not to steal because He wanted them to trust in His goodness and generosity. However, people tend to take things into their own hands and often don’t rely on God to provide for them. But God promises that if they do trust him to provide, He will provide everything they need.

The 7th Commandment: You Must Not Commit Adultery - Exodus 20:14

God values the biblical institution of marriage and despises adultery. Jesus understands lust, which occurs in the heart and mind, to be the same thing as adultery. Unfortunately, people struggle to overcome the temptation of lust and adultery that is seemingly overwhelmingly present in our culture. However, Jesus instructs us to take drastic and necessary steps to avoid these temptations in our lives at all costs. But even when we fail, God has offered us forgiveness for our past, present, and future sins, and He encourages us to live a life free from sin.

The 6th Commandment: You Must Not Murder - Exodus 20:13

In the sixth commandment, we see God’s value for human life. However, humans often allow their emotions to control their actions in negative ways that don’t honor God’s command to love one another. Jesus said that when believers love their brothers and sisters in Christ, they will please God and prove that they belong to Him.

The 5th Commandment: Honor Your Father and Mother

God values honor, order, and authority when it comes to the parent-child relationship. However, parents often fail to be worthy of honor, and children fail to fully obey God’s command. But God expects parents to reflect His character to their children, and children must honor and obey their parents in return. Because both are promised a long, full life when if they listen to God’s instructions.

The 4th Commandment: Remember to Observe the Sabbath

God values hard work and rest, and modeled those values for people in the creation story. However, people often struggle to find a healthy balance between work and rest. In the Old Testament, God instructed people to dedicate a day of rest to the LORD their God. But now, people are to find their rest in the completed work of Christ on the cross. Jesus promises that those who come to Him will be given rest!

The 3rd Commandment: Don't Misuse The Name of God

5/11/2025

God wants His name to be known and expects it to be respected and honored. However, people tend to diminish God’s name, which diminishes His glory and worthiness. But, believers should not misue God’s name because they’re promised to one day experience the fully glory of God and worship His name in His presence.

In our current culture, people worship all kinds of things. However, God is a jealous God and wants us to worship Him exclusively. But because God is also a loving God, if people would simply love and obey Him, then God promises that He will lavish His blessings on them for generations.

God desires to be the top priority in everyone’s life, and yet, people often prioritize “other gods” instead. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, believers must always put God first by obeying His commands because of the salvation they’ve received through Jesus’ work on the cross. #10Commandments
