PPCC is a Church in the Sandhills...
that is dedicated to the clear teaching and preaching of the Word of God, which we believe to be Inspired, Infallible and Inerrant. As a family of Believers, we seek to glorify God in worship, share the Gospel in truth, study the Bible for wisdom and demonstrate God's love in action.
A History of Pleasant Point Community Church
Although the ground was broken to build the "original" church in 1955, the early beginnings of the work was as long ago as 1933-34, when Julius and Anna Koehler, graduates of Biola Bible College of Los Angeles, yet natives to our own state, traveled the Sandhill Trails to help local people establish Sunday Schools under the direction and sponsorship of the American Sunday School Union.
Church services and Sunday Schools were always held in South Sheridan County, even as early as the Kinkaid days. A visiting supply pastor donated his expense money of the day to start a fund for a church. It seems like an amusing dream at the time, yet the idea for a fledgling church was spawned.
As ideas took shape and plans made and finalized, a site for a church on the recently completed Highway 27, 22 miles north of Ellsworth, NE was chosen. The Land was donated by Oliver and Etta Hamilton. Groundbreaking took place in June of 1955 with Leonard Johnson, a Gordon builder and contractor being hired to oversee the project, and with the combined skills of the local people, work was begun.
In order to for the rural church to grow and flourish, the need for a parsonage and resident pastor who could give full-time to the ministry was realized. Therefore, after the basement of the church was finished as a temporary place of worship, full attention was turned to building a parsonage. Blueprints were drawn by a church committee and the new parsonage was completed and dedicated on October 2, 2956.
Yet, were you a traveler in South Sheridan County in 1959, you would have topped a hill and there in the valley below you would have seen the white slender spired steeple pointing heavenward. A real church in the Sandhills!
It was on the 26th day of July in 1959 when the original PPCC was dedicated. In the mid-1980s, a new sanctuary was built and the former building was extensively remodeled.
PPPCC still stands as a lighthouse in the Sandhills of South Sheridan County, Nebraska.
